چکیده
In this paper, a new approach for segmentation of sartorius muscle (M. sar.) with the tendon attachment sites (TAS) from 3D Magnetic Resonance (MR) Images is presented. The segmented muscle is used in a human gait modeling software. By means of the modeling, the cause of gait pathologies could be diagnosed. In this approach, three Active Shape Models (ASM) are employed. Two of them are 2D models of cross section of bones which contain the begin and the end positions of M. sar and they are used to obtain the vertical span length (VSL) of the muscle. The third one is a 3D model of the M. sar. which is adopted for muscle segmentation via the model-based active contour method. Comparing the results of our approach with manual segmentation by a specialist, the mean deviation of the extraction of TAS position is 4.7 mm and the accuracy of muscle segmentation is 82%.

Comparison the Accuracy of Fetal Brain Extraction from T2-Half-Fourier Acquisition Single-Shot Turbo Spin-Echo (HASTE) MR Image with T2-True Fast Imaging with Steady State Free Precession (TRUFI) MR Image by Level Set Algorithm
Background Access to appropriate images of fetal brain can greatly assist to diagnose of probable abnormalities. The aim of this study was to compare the suitability of T2-True Fast Imaging with Steady State Free Precession (T2-TRUFI), and T2-Half-Fourier Acquisition Single-Shot Turbo Spin-Echo (T2- HASTE( magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to extract the fetal brain using the level set algorithm...
متن کاملDifferentiation of active tumor from edematous regions of glioblastoma multiform tumor in diffusion MR images using heterogeneity analysis method
Background: Due to intrinsic heterogeneity of cellular distribution and density within diffusion weighted images (DWI) of glioblastoma multiform (GBM) tumors, differentiation of active tumor and peri-tumoral edema regions within these tumors is challenging. The aim of this paper was to take advantage of the differences among heterogeneity of active tumor and edematous regions within the gliobla...
متن کاملEffect of exercise intervention on thigh muscle volume and anatomical cross-sectional areas--quantitative assessment using MRI.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the location-specific magnitudes of an exercise intervention on thigh muscle volume and anatomical cross-sectional area, using MRI. Forty one untrained women participated in strength, endurance, or autogenic training for 12 weeks. Axial MR images of the thigh were acquired before and after the intervention, using a T1-weighted turbo-spin-echo sequence...
متن کاملTranstendinous course of the infrapatellar branch of saphenous nerve. A contribution to the aetiology of entrapment neuropathy and modification of the existing classification.
BACKGROUND The course of the infrapatellar branch of saphenous nerve (IPBSN) in relation to the Sartorius muscle has been classified into presartorial, transsartorial and retrosartorial types. Mechanical compression of the IPBSN within the Sartorius tendon has been surgically recognised as a cause of entrapment neuropathy. Purpose of the present study was to differentiate the IPBSNs penetrating...
متن کاملComparison of state-of-the-art atlas-based bone segmentation approaches from brain MR images for MR-only radiation planning and PET/MR attenuation correction
Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...
